Paul Strisik always enjoyed his trips to Europe, where the strong Mediterranean sunlight gave stimulus to his work. Nevertheless, he was not afraid to amend what he saw, if it brought him closer to the ‘psychological truth’ of his subject. “Strisik loved painting abroad, and discovering new and challenging material. He especially enjoyed painting in Cornwall, England, being familiar with the subject matter of boats and fishermen. “But,” he explained, “it took a while to get used to the classical look of things, particularly the patina given to objects by centuries of use.”
